What is Mums of Steel?
A fun class that allows mums and babies to enjoy the benefits of exercise together.  Classes are taught by qualified post natal instructors and are fun for both mums and babies.  It brings mums to a great social environment while still able to bond with baby and get fit!

What kind of exercise is it?
The class provides both a cardio and toning exercises as well as core stability work.  During each class students are burning calories and toning up.  Specific exercises focus on stomach muscles and pelvic floor work to suit the needs of the post partum mum.  A portion of the cardio class is done by walking and sprinting with the baby in the pram.  Classes are available for all levels of fitness.  Mums of Steel instructors encourage you to do your best and work at your own fitness level.  All mums must have approval from their midwife or doctor and be at least up to: 6 weeks and older post partum to participate.

How old should my baby be?
Babies need to be at least six weeks old and up.  If your baby is content to be in a stroller for 1 hour then you will be fine for mums of steel class.  It is important to remember that during the class there may be elements of speed walking and sprinting with the baby in the pram.  You will need to ensure that the baby has proper neck support if required.

What should I bring to class?
For classes please make sure you bring a water bottle and sweat towel.  A sports bra is a must! The bra should be very snug fitting to ensure your breasts are kept in place to prevent you from damaging any breast tissue.  We recommend you bring all of the usual necessities for your baby that you would normally take when going for a walk with your pram.  For outdoor classes we recommend that you additionally bring sunscreen, a hat, extra layer of clothing for both you and baby.  As well you will need a towel or mat in order to do some work on the grass.  Please be aware that if you have any questions regarding this to give us a call.

What if my baby gets fussy?
Your baby is your first priority.  The beauty of Mums of Steel classes is we are aware of the situation of mums with babies and understand they can become fussy from time to time. We embrace the challenges and celebrate the support that this group environment can provide.  If you baby becomes fussy there will be a designated area for you to go to soothe your baby.  Do not worry about disturbing other class mates we are all mums in the same boat.

Do I need to bring any special fitness equipment?
When you become a member of Mums of Steel you receive a mums of steel pack which includes a kit bag and toning tube.  We will use this tube during the resistance part of the class.  That is all you need to bring, any additional equipment needed will be provided for you.

How do I register?
Registering is easy.  Firstly you need to fill in the Pre exercise questionnaire along with a registration form.  These forms can be printed from the website.  Secondly, you will need to purchase a block of classes to choose your days and locations please call 07709 342 329 and speak with an instructor.  Please ensure all forms are filled in completely with full payment prior to your first class.  See our getting started page for more detailed information.

What if the weather is poor?
Getting Fit happens rain or shine! Remember there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.  Classes will go ahead in all weather unless advised by the met office not to. In which case we will arrange a make up class for another time.

What if I can’t make a class?
Mums of Steel runs as a 6 week course.  We do not give refunds to missed classes.

Can I bring a friend?
Mums of Steel encourages all of our members to bring a friend.  Please speak with an instructor about registering your friend for a class.  All participants must come with a pram and a baby as this is the format of the class.

Why do you offer Personal Training?
We have had feedback from lots of mums saying they really enjoy the group classes however; they would like to increase the amount of exercise they do and are not always available at class times.  Personal Training provides the same great instructors as a mums of steel class, allows you to have baby in reach and provides the convenience of being at your own home or Local Park.  Another great benefit is the ability to have a program designed specifically for you to help you achieve your goals quickly.

Where do I put my baby during a Personal Training Session?
For outdoor sessions your baby would be in a pram just like a class.  If you choose to have the session in your home baby can be close at hand having the best seat in the house watching as mum gets fit!
